Community Life
Relationship At the heart of L’Arche communities are relationships between people with and without intellectual disabilities. A respectful relationship between people who treat each other as of equal value provides security, allowing for growth, personal development and freedom to become more fully the people we want to be. Most importantly, mutual relationships foster the acceptance of each person as a unique and valuable individual, whatever his or her abilities or disabilities.

The essence of our communities is this ‘living with.’ We are called, certainly, to serve with all our ability and to help those who are weaker to develop, but the foundation of this helping is found in friendship and the communion of hearts, which allows us all to grow."
―Jean Vanier, L'Arche founder

Living with others emphasizes what a person can accomplish, give and learn. Just as in a family, all members of the community are responsible for the group’ s well-being, through cooking or washing up, through a helping hand, even through a simple smile

Transformation People are transformed in their encounters with L’Arche. Core members (persons with an intellectual disability) find solace, friendship, and purpose. Assistants (persons who support core members with everyday needs) discover the unexpected blessings of giving and receiving. Friends and volunteers within a L’Arche community come to see their vocation, family, and faith in a new light.

Seolta House

Sign L'Arche Dublin currently consists of these two homes with plans to add others in the future. They are ordinary houses located in a residential neighbourhood and are indistinguishable from the neighbourhood homes around them. However, as some of our members are wheelchair users the houses have been modified to be fully wheelchair accessible. Our identity and mission statements set the basis for our community.
